Despite the name, “Metric” lamps don’t follow the typical base-10 metric system (e.g., 1 km = 1000 m, 1 m = 100 cm). Instead, they’re simply measured in millimetres, with an odd length of 1160 mm—neither a tidy metre nor a standard four feet, but somewhere in between at just over forty five and five eigths of an inch. It’s a truly unique standard.
